(Part,1) Wednesday 08/02/2017 the Somali Federal Parliament elected at exactly almost 7.30 p.m east Africa time as President of the Republic Mohamed Abdullahi "Farmaajo" .It was a 90' degree "Change" from the politics of the last 26 Years,it was a dramatic change,a milestone in historic terms.. It was a change from the days of the demise of the Siad Barre regime in 1991 and the advent of Clan sectarianism politics,war- lord- ism supported by ETHIOPIA-IGAD countries and the emergence/establishment in Somalia -supported by Arab countries of the Somali Salafist movement with its extremist/ fundamentalist branch of #Alshabaab.He represented in the Election contest the Nationalist ,democratic Agenda over the Clan-based groups.
The result of the first round made us to realize to all Somalis "change was possible" and this time was real.At the first Round Mr." Farmaajo" a former PM a democrat with left wing leanings ,a Nationalist garnered 72 votes,incumbent president Hassan got 88 votes, candidate Sheik Sharif a former president got 49 and incumbent PM Omar Abdirashid 37 votes.This was the main four candidates who will go to the second round. although there were other candidates who got some share of the votes of almost 21 candidates..The elections were done by the Somali parliament and the House of the Senate which were sitting together.The number of members who participated were 328 of all members missing one vote. At the end President elect got a majority vote of 184 while incumbent President got 97 and Sheik Sharif got 47.He was declared winner after the incumbent president conceded.In Mogadishu and all over Somalia started wild celebrations.
Somali Identity aspirations, One Nation-State/Sovereign country, and Revolt against sub colonization.
The Somali Politics of the last 26 years led and formulated by ETHIOPIA using Warlords and Clan Elite puppet Leaders who were allied with the Somali Salafist Business Cartels were defeated in the Election of Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi as president..How? and Who were the main Actors?What was the Agenda?
First let me tell you all this years there was a growing concern within Somalis of all political shades including the moderate Islamist,intellectuals from every Somali Clan and Sub-Clan,Somali Diaspora Elites-intellectuals,the honest Military officers, some Bureaucrats,civil society groups of all over Somalia. Most importantly Business men not linked to the Salafist groups of all over Somali Republic that "CHANGE" was needed. If the Ethnic group called Somalis who were citizens of Somalia had to exist as people in the short and long term future as a Nation State.More to that Somalis in the Diaspora were becoming restless about the Doom and Gloom in which Somalis lived.They decided to participate and sacrifice even their lives and become MP and stalwarts of the new political Establishment for the new Federal Parliament and Senate. This new MPs are more than 150 in both chambers and were the real actors of the change who came to Somalia. In other words they decided to challenge the power grip and monopoly in power of the Clan Elites allied to ETHIOPIA who were for the sub colonization of Somali Republic under the guise of CLAN ENCLAVES in a Confederate Somalia called regional states.
The new media of so-called Somali websites some of them came to be real participant in this incoming "Change" and started to inform Somalis of the real situation of their country. But the more influential are the Somali TVS groups who started being against the sub colonization in a subtle way while the Clan enclaves made TVs channels were practicing "personality Cult" of regional Clan Leaders and the politics of subdivision. The Somali TVs mostly based abroad at every opportunity brought out the sinister Agenda to control everything Somali by ETHIOPIA specially the symbols like the Somali Flag which president Hassan showed a new prototype,the change in the Colonial Borders advocated and practiced by ETHIOPIA Army in Bakol region,Central regions and Jubbaland, Gedo regions.And the opening in Mogadishu of a regional Culture,Language Academy where Ethiopians will research the Somali Language. In other words even the minds of the Somalis will be manipulated using the means of our language and Culture by foreign powers..The websites and the TVS made even the maps of the new sub colonization of the Somali Republic and wrote extensively about how the CLAN ENCLAVES leaders were callous and real Puppet leaders following the Agenda of ETHIOPIA-IGAD.. They wrote about how the Salafist and their armed wing #AlShabaab were destroying our national identity like the Ethiopians and making Somalia home of International terrorism and Organized crimes/Drug cartels.(See my Blog "Clan Enclaves Sectarianism: The new Political model for Somali Republic".)
The other important factor which will help the "Change" in Somalia and the new President must have the knowledge and assist with job creation is the young generation of Somalis which is almost 60% of Somali population and a section of that group the young women who are less Clan minded..This youngsters aspire to live in a Somali Republic with its own National identity. Culture and religion not controlled by foreigners and Salafist Jihadist. They are using Facebook and Somali media and they were those who spontaneously went out to celebrate the victory of the new president in the the Election in all cities of Somalia including all CLAN ENCLAVES from North to south.While the Ethiopians and their allies the Elite Puppet Leaders were making this new Clan Enclaves structures the Diaspora,the Media,honest civil society groups and every Somali Elite nationalist, youngsters become more conscious of the dangers of the sub colonization and subdivision of the Somalis in Clans who own States and have borders between them yes Borders between Somalis divided in Clans. Also this young generation would like to live in a democratic Somalia were Salafist don't control society,culture and our religion Islam.
The Somalis have crossed the Rubicon of Somali Politics.
Before this Election the Tigre Elites of Ethiopia has prepared a report made by an outfit called CDRC titled "The commotion surrounding Somalia's transition" of January 2017. In this unusual report the Tigre Elites of Ethiopia declare that the Somalis must elect the incumbent President Hassan and they cannot elect from the Darod Clan.It is written in the report that Somali Clans each one have its own so-called Clan-Enclave State and that is the real solution for Somalia. That what is needed now is a Clan Militia for every regional state armed by the international community. That Ethiopia is stakeholder in Somalia and international community are wrong on different issues like the Ethiopian Army stationed in Somalia without the APPROVAL OF THE SOMALI FEDERAL PARLIAMENT under a 2014 agreement signed by incumbent president hassan. The other important happening is the convening in Dubai of the so-called Clan Enclaves Leaders( see my post of November in my Blog called " #UAE governments meetings for Somali Clan Enclaves Leaders"). In that meeting the UAE tried to carve for themselves a new political hegemony positioning by even supporting some of the candidates of the Presidential election. All this happenings were showing to the Somalis how their country was being manipulated by foreign countries and their so called Leaders were part and parcel to those Agendas.By uniting and electing Mr. Formajo the Somalis of all Clan communities have showed they crossed the Rubicon of the Somali divisive CLAN Politics.
What is next for Somali Nation-Building,fight against #Alshabaab and preserving Somali Republic Sovereignty,Unity and territorial integrity?
First of all Mr. Formajo must use the momentum and use good communication methods and stay on message with his election pledges" one Nation" with a decentralized/federal system where the people-citizens own and make accountable their representatives at the National and regional levels..He must continue to elucidate and educate the people-citizens on his plans and explain every time the long road and hard work is needed to achieve them..There are not easy solutions.The Nation building must be assisted by the UN,US and EU but must be based on Somali needs,Nation interests, and directed first on the security sector,reestablishment of Rule of La,national and regional state institutions,New Tax system for all Somalia (based partly on the old one),The total control and administration by the Somali Federal government and regional administrations of all Somali ports just like the Civil aviation.Its the ports which are the major income generating and financiers of the Clan Enclaves sectarian system and the economies controlled by the Salafist Business Cartels and #Alshabaab. We all know Somali ports has been used for the last two years to transship arms and ammunition's sent by IRAN/ETHIOPIA to the Huthi tribes of Yemen fighting the Yemeni government supported by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. While I am drafting this post I came to know that the government of UAE has made an agreement with the authority of Somaliland.Its totally illegal under Somali Laws and international Laws.Somali federal government must declare it "Null and void", I believe the Tigre regime of ETHIOPIA is favorable to this so- called military deal and that they are against it is a deception maneuver..Using an Arab country UAE to subdivide another Arab country Somalia is the highest deception,. Mr. Silanyo has seen the writing on the wall for his regime and to save himself he is ready to sell Somali sovereignty,territory to remain in power.Secondly till know Somaliland authority is part of the sovereign country of Somalia and they cannot lease any port or Military base to a foreign country. Its the powers only of the Somali government and federal Parliament to lease any part of our country..Its looking that all was done under a secret and corrupt scheme in which was also involved the federal government in Mogadishu.Wait and see.
( Part 2) The Fight against #Alshabaab and Nation Building.
The fight against AlShabaab the terror group can be done only by Somali National Army and revamped national security services and a National federal Police assisted by African Union forces minus the Ethiopian Army.The fight must be directed,under the leadership of the Somali federal government and its National . Army. Amisom is a foreign army and must only assist the Somalis. If #Amisom leads its not a Somali war but a foreign fight..That is the reason Alshabaab its using as a propaganda that foreign forces are taking our lands and country.Those who have to be at the forefront of this fight are the local and National Clan communities united under a National Federal army which is not Clan based as is planned by ETHIOPIA and some regional Clan Enclaves.Making for every Clan Encalves regional administration Army,Police and Intelligence is a recipe for the total destruction of Somali Unity and territorial integrity.Alshabaab and now ISIL use the subdivision of Somalia as clan Enclaves as a tool to control territories and influence local sub-clans of every region/area.
The fight against Alshabaab must go in unison with the stopping of income generating activities of the Salafist movement and alshabaab. in the countryside,towns and even Mogadishu city. This activities are the export of Charcoal,tax to pastoralist, agricultural activities,trade between regions taxed at checkpoints. and the usual market taxes be in Mogadishu or all border towns or Port cities.The biggest income comes from all over the ports to Alshabaab and its paid by all importers of goods to Somalia from all Clan Enclaves/ regional administration.Its a secret black mail which also hoteliers in Mogadishu pay to survive the attacks of #Alshabaab.
